Some Characteristics
- Chepangs are animists and have no organized religion. They believe that the Earth is their God and souls of the dead persons influence their lives.
- Nowangi is their most important festival – basically a harvest festival. Mage Sankranti also is celebrated.
- There is no male domination in Chepang Community. Both girls and boys are given equal importance and care.
- They are generally mild in their behaviour and soft in their approaches.
- They are not considered untouchables.
- They are remarkably talented and skillful.
- They are considered more intelligent than some other indigenous groups.
- Chepang is one of the few languages which uses a duodecimal (base 12) counting system rather than the decimal (base 10).
