Navodaya School

Although it was run in a rented building for the first six years, now it has a full-fledged school building with science lab. Library and audio visual rooms, located at Tarkari Chowk, Khairahani Municipality -1, Chitwan.
The school has been registered a s Private Trust (Niji Ghuti) and is recognized by the Education Department as a Secondary School and Class X was approved in the year 2014. At present (in the year 2018/2019) there are classes from III to X only, and the total strength of the school is 246, out of which 132 are boys and 114 girls. Sister Evelyn Varkey is the Principal of the school and there are 11 full time teachers and two part time teacher. There is one non-teaching staff. So far five batches of SEE students have passed out from our school. However, the dirst two batches were enrolled in Kakali Secondary School, Chainpur-1.
We take admissions on the basis of the result of the Entrance Exam conducted for this purpose. In this process, only Chepang children are granted admission in the school. Preference is given to children from remote areas. Only one child from one family is admitted in the school.
The medium of instruction of the school is Nepali; however, we give strong foundation for English providing special classes for it till Class VIII, besides the regular syllabus. The school follows the syllabus prescribed by the government of Nepal. “Chepang Culture” is one of the subjects taught in the school, in the lower classes.
Two Terminal Exams and Final Exam are conducted every year. After each exam children are allowed to go home for holidays.
Daily classes are conducted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with 10 minutes break at 11.30 and half an hour break at 2 p.m. for refreshment.
No fee is levied from the children, and all study materials – books, notebooks and uniform dress- are given to them free of cost. Children are expected to bring from home only pencil and pen.
As the opportunity to do high school studies in Chepang settlements is almost non-existing, Navodaya is providing them this opportunity to do their highschool studies and guidence and partial help to do professional and higher studies. From the year 2014, the govenment of Nepal has announced a special program for Chepangs and Dalits to give free education with free hostel facilities to do professional studies. Our students have already grabed this opportunity and qualified themselves to be enrolled for General Nursing, Health Assistant and Civil Engineering.
